Lithuanian film collection
The Department for the Promotion of Culture considers the popularisation of Lithuanian cinema worldwide one of its priorities. In cooperation with famous film critics, we want to offer 10 documentary and 10 feature films to the public of other countries. In the future we plan on releasing these classics on DVD, and distributing them through Lithuanian embassies in foreign countries. We believe that if MoMa, the most important modern art museum in New York, has an interest in Lithuanian cinema, they it may very well await success in other famous cinema halls around the world.
Our partners in the project to popularization of Lithuanian cinema are the culture attaches of Lithuanian embassies abroad, the Lithuanian Filmmakers Union, Lietuvos kino studija UAB, Ulijana Kim ir ko, Studija Kinema, Filmų era UAB, Nominum film studio, and Lietuvos Kinas UAB.
The showing of these films is planned for January 2010 in Chicago, March 2010 in Innsbruck and Zagreb, in November at the Nordic literature and art festival Les Boréales in Caen and elsewhere.
