The International Cultural Programme Centre continues the projects of "Books from Lithuania" and invites to participate in Translation Subsidy and Sample Translation Subsidy Programmes.
SUBSIDIES FOR TRANSLATIONS
Books from Lithuania promotes the dissemination of Lithuanian literature by subsidizing the translation of Lithuanian literary works. Foreign publishers are invited to apply once a year for grants which will partly or totally cover translation costs.
Funding will be provided for fiction, children’s literature, culturally significant texts, or works in the humanities (philosophy, literary criticism, essays, and history). Priority will be given to translations of literary works (i.e. prose and poetry) and translation, which for the first time introduces the author to a new reading audience.
The deadline for submissions is December 1, 2011.
SUBSIDIES FOR SAMPLE TRANSLATIONS
In an effort to encourage the translation of Lithuanian literary works into other languages, and to promote new translations of Lithuanian books abroad, Books from Lithuania has launched a support programme for sample translations.
Translators, publishers and writers of Lithuanian literature – residing in Lithuania or abroad – are eligible to apply. Funding will be provided for excerpts from original literary works, children’s literature, culturally significant texts, or works in the humanities (philosophy, literary criticism, essays, and history). Priority will be given to translations of literary works (i.e. prose and poetry).
Only works already published in Lithuanian are eligible for submission.
Upon selection, International Cultural Programme Centre will sign an agreement with the translator. Payment for the translation will be transferred to the translator’s account after receipt of the completed work, which must be submitted within four months of the signing of the agreement. Books from Lithuania will retain the right to use the excerpt or to distribute it to third parties. The translator in parallel will have the same rights to the excerpt.
The deadline for submissions is December 1, 2011.
